History

Dominoes Netball ClubDominoes Netball Club was set up in 1997. It started as a mixed netball team playing in the Reddish Vale League on a Sunday evening. The club name was thought of by Danny Williams (the Club founders ‘other half’). The Dominoes logo represents the number of players allowed on court ie; 3 men and 4 women. Finding a playing venue wasn’t that easy but eventually ‘Ducie’ sports centre on Denmark Road, became the 1st home to Dominoes and stayed that way for the next ten years!

In September of 1997 Dominoes entered the Manchester Evening League, a 2nd team also entered a year later. To see how we’ve got on in League matches and Tournaments go to our achievements page.

In 2002 the club held its first tournament to coincide with Manchester’s Commonwealth Games. This has now become an annual tradition but more recently the event takes place over two days.

In 2003 a 3rd Dominoes team was entered into the MENL. The 4th team was established a year later in 2004 and then team 5 a year later in 2005. Over those 8 years each team finished either 1st or 2nd in their respective division. Currently Dominoes 1st team play in Division one.

2003 also saw the birth of Dominoes Junior Netball Club. Over 40 girls turned up for the first training session. For more info see the Junior site.

In 2004 Club Coach Lona Williams was one of 3 finalists nominated for the prestigious Winning Women’s Award. It was a great event and the very fact that Lona was nominated reflects the hard work that she does in Manchester for Netball.

2006/07 was a brilliant season for Dominoes Netball Club all 5 teams were either winners or runners up in their league. And also in the past year we also entered the Open Regional League, and finished 3rd. Dominoes also took part in the Challenge Cup.

In June this year we celebrated being 10 years old and had a party at the Victoria & Albert 4* hotel in Manchester. It was actually a gala dinner where everyone scrubbed up really well and danced into the early hours!
